Happy New Year, my cleaver book dragons,

Did you make any resolutions or goals to achieve this year? Have you been able to keep them so far?

My goal is to catch a literary agent this year. I am also trying to spend at least two hours a day writing my next book. So far so good. Life has kept me plenty busy but I have managed to stick to my writing goal...most days.

December left in a blur and now we are in the never ending January. I took December off from writing to spend time with my family and welcome our two new family members, Phineas and Ferb. They are two mischievous black kittens, who have warmed our hearts and laps.

The first part of January was filled with visits to the veterinarian for us. Kitty colds, pancreatitis and a bulging disc for my sweet Sam took up my bandwidth of energy. I want to say a big thank you to all of you who prayed for Sam. He is back home and doing well. I am making sure he is getting lots of cuddles. He is the best pup. He has welcomed Phin and Ferb with open paws. He is not always the biggest fan of their young kitten shenanigans but that is just because he is a bit of an old grumpy man. Either way, he is my little grumpy writing assistant and I missed him greatly. So thank you for caring about him and keeping him in your prayers.

I'm sure you are probably wondering about my first book The Kingdom of the Littles. My first book baby is currently visiting the editor, Carrie Turner, to polish it up for the query trenches. I will be querying this spring. I managed to cut 20,000 words from my manuscript last fall. Now, the story is clearer and I believe more enjoyable. I hope an agent will agree. I will keep you all updated on any news.

Meanwhile, I am working on another book. This is NOT the second book in the Little series. I will be working on that project at a later date. Believe it or not, series are not usually easily sold to publishers so they do not get picked up by agents as easily. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It just means its less likely. I want to give my book it's best chance. It will be a stand alone until further notice. Though I do have ideas for a second book in the series.

My newest project is a middle grade fantasy full of adventure, good lessons, and quirky characters. I have been plotting and developing storylines, characters and scenery for this love project. I will be trying a new beta reading technique in April that involve author visits and working with some amazing 6th graders. I am nervous and excited to share this new book baby with young book dragons like you.

I am looking forward to all this year holds. Hopefully the next step in my writing career will happen soon. Thank you all for following me on this journey!

I am proud of each of you. Love you bunches, my sweet book dragons!

Always,

Laureli
